In general, a coffee importer closes the gap between producers and roasters. At Hambela Coffee LLC, we are directly involved in operations starting from the production of coffee at the origin to the import of coffee into the United States and distribution to our customers’ doorsteps. Our company, along with our sister company in Ethiopia, owns washing/drying stations in Guji, Sidamo, and Yirgacheffee regions of Ethiopia. Hambela Coffee LLC also owns coffee processing facility and warehouse in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
We believe in creating value-addition to roasters; therefore, we are working to provide traceability, dependability, and consistency on the coffees we supply to our customers – by doing this, we are also providing value to our member farmers.
Experience the richness
We understand the importance of traceability to roasters. At Hambela Coffee, we are taking traceability to a whole new level by controlling the entire value chain from seed to the door steps of roasters.
By reducing the value chain, we assure that roasters will gain detailed insights of the coffee’s origin down to the State, Zone, Woreda, Kebele, and farm/farmer name.
Our main objective is to create a heart-to-heart relationship between farmers and roasters. Not only would we like to see roasters roast coffee sourced from a single origin, but we would also like to see roasters know the name and story of the farmer who produced the coffee.
Our company believes that farmers should be well compensated for the quality of coffee they produce. For our Single Origin coffee, as a token of our appreciation, we pay an extra 2 birr/kg above the daily market price to our member farmers. In addition, at the end of the coffee season, we pay an additional 3 birr/kg to member farmers by calculating the total amount of coffee they brought to our stations.
Through our Give Back Program, we have pledged to donate 10% of our sales revenue from Single Farm coffees back to the farmers.
Furthermore, we actively participate in donations to schools, medical facilities, and infrastructure programs such as road projects in Guji region.
When our customers buy our coffee, they are directly contributing to the coffee growing community!
